The Problem With the U.S. Constitution

The problem with the Constitution of the United States of America is, indeed, that it was conceived and formulated by God-fearing men, who, while not perfect, had a high degree of morality and integrity.  They were men from diverse backgrounds, but statesmen who sought the common good for the common people.  They could not conceive of an America that would degenerate into an immoral and irreligious citizenry that would lust after the sinful nature of man. What do you mean “we”?

In the Lone Ranger television series that ran from 1949 to 1957, the Lone Ranger had an Indian sidekick named Tonto.  The joke of the day was when the two were surrounded by hostile Indian warriors the Lone Ranger turned to Tonto and said, “What are we going to do now?”  To which Tonto replied, “What do you mean we, kemosabi?”

Last week while in the 99.6% Muslim nation of Turkey, President Barack Obama made the widely controversial and highly offensive (to some) statement that, “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation.”  To which many in the United States have retorted, “What do you mean we?” (more…)
