You have heard it said a thousand times, spewing forth from the mouths of Washington bureaucrats and politicos (notably Democrats), the Whitehouse inner circle, the liberal media and, of course, President Obama, that the number of chronically uninsured in America is 46 million, or is it 47 million Americans.  This is usually followed by a statement of pseudo-outrage that this must be stopped and all Americans must be covered with health insurance.  But are these numbers correct and is this outrageous bravado on behalf of the uninsured justified?

I’m willing to admit, as is almost anyone, that there are shortcomings within America’s health care system and that there are those individuals and families that fall through the health care cracks and need to be included for the safety and welfare of themselves and family.  But are there really as many as 47 million in such need?

Briefly, let’s breakdown the numbers.  First, there an estimated 10 million (perhaps more) illegal immigrants in this country that are uninsured that are included within the 47 million estimate.  Now, I have nothing against immigrants; my forefathers and those of most Americans, were immigrants.  But if you are here illegally you do not and should not qualify for taxpayer subsidized benefits of any kind – period.  Of course, President Obama and his fellow Democrats say there is no provision in the health care bill to cover illegals.  But that is because Obama plans to make all illegals legal.

But let’s get to the real numbers provided by the 2007 Census Bureau report on Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States.  If you access the 84-page report, pay particular attention to the data on page 22.  Of the official estimate of 45.657 million in the United States without health insurance coverage, 9.737 million are in this country illegally.  Another 17.603 million have incomes over the median U.S. income and earn $50,000 or more but, for whatever reason, chose not to have health insurance.  That is a total of 27.34 million of the “uninsured” touted by the Obamacareans that could have insurance by traditional methods or should not have insurance because they are illegal – just like illegals are treated in the majority of countries.

But wait, there’s more.  The Census Bureau admits that it “underreported the total number of those who actually have insurance and that it “underreported” those covered by Medicaid and Medicare.  Also, it has been revealed by the Congressional Budget Office that 45 percent of those uninsured during a given year are only uninsured temporarily due to job transitions and will have coverage again within four months.

So, what does this all add up to?  Point blank: There is no health insurance coverage crisis in America!  Are there those that are uninsured that need insurance?  Yes!  Do we need to rein in health care costs?  Yes!  Does health care in America need improvement?  Yes!  But do we need a government take-over of health care to accomplish this?  Absolutely not!

And has the the crisis of the uninsured been escalating?  No!  According to the same Census Bureau report, the percentage of uninsured in all catagories has remained relatively constant over twenty years (1987-2007) at about 15 percent of the population.

The Kaiser Family Foundation (a liberal non-profit) puts the true extent of the uninsured at somewhere between 8.2 and 13.9 million (less than 5 percent of the U.S. population).  If we take the higher number to be true, then it would be far cheaper (an estimated $50 billion/year) to offer these uninsured an insurance purchase voucher ($2,000 for singles; up to $5,000 for families) to purchase their own insurance through private plans.  Instead, the Obama administration and the Democratic-controlled House and Senate favor a massive government controlled take-over that will cost Americans trillions in wasteful spending and no better delivery of quality health care.

Tell your senators and representatives in Washington, “No thank you.  Stay away from my health care needs.”

Abortion, homosexuality and Islam: what do they all have in common?  They are three 21st Century forces that are rapidly changing the demographics and culture of Western society.

Change is coming, but it is not the type of change that most in Europe, North America, Australia or even Russia are looking for in the near future.

Islam is rapidly expanding its influence worldwide.  Not through the old tactics of barbaric warfare but through migration and high fertility.  Muslims are rapidly replacing the native populations of the countries that they are immigrating to.  For countries who look to Christian ideals and values, Christianity and Islam are on a collision course with diametrically opposed objectives.

In 2007 alone, Release International, estimated that 250 million Christians faced persecution simply for being Christian, and most of the persecution came from Muslims around the world.  So why is Islam growing so rapidly?  Is it because its tenets of faith are so compelling and attractive?  Because of charismatic and loving leaders?  Or that it has all the answers that mankind is seeking?  No, it is expanding because the fertility rate among Muslims is among the highest in the world.  At the same time, the fertility rate among non-Muslims and principally in Australia, Russia, all European countries, Canada and the United States has fallen below the required replacement birth rate of 2.11 children per woman.

According to the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) World Factbook the 2009 estimated fertility rate among most Muslim countries far exceeds the required replacement rate.  Of the top 50 countries with very high fertility rates, 30 are countries with Muslim populations of 50-100%.  Number one on the list is the Muslim country of Niger (91% Muslim) which has a fertility rate of 7.75, almost four times the replacement rate.

In addition, 14 more countries in the top 50 have Muslim populations of 10-36%.  In total, there are 48 countries with Muslim populations of 50% or more that have birth rates that exceed 2.11 births per woman.

It is notable that there is not one Westernized country in the world that has a replacement birth rate – all are below 2.11.  Only the Latin American countries in the Western Hemisphere have replacement birth rates.  Most of the European Union countries are dying out, with birth rates far below 2.11.  Some countries, such as Germany (1.41), Austria (1.39), Greece (1.37), Italy (1.31), Spain (1.31) and several others are beyond recovering their former ethnic populations.  Others, like France, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Belgium and Portugal are rapidly trending to non-native ethnic populations.  The average replacement birth rate for all European Union countries is only 1.51 – a rate that can not sustain the native populations.  Within the next 50 years, Muslims will dominate the culture, religion and politics of most of Europe.

To make things worse – for the West, that is – except for former Russian satellite countries, abortion rates among Muslim countries is minuscule.  By comparison, Russia, with a fertility rate of only 1.41, sacrifices 52% of pregnancies to abortion.  Many English-speaking countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom abort over 20% of pregnancies.

A third factor in the decline of Western civilizations is the ever-increasing popularity and general public approval of homosexual relationships.  Such sexual orientation, while not completely absent in Muslim societies, is rare, strictly forbidden and often results in a prescribed death of the practitioner.

With the continued focus in the West of personal fulfillment, prosperity and sexual freedom, hopes for the recovery of a Judeo-Christian Western society appear dim.

The problem with the Constitution of the United States of America is, indeed, that it was conceived and formulated by God-fearing men, who, while not perfect, had a high degree of morality and integrity.  They were men from diverse backgrounds, but statesmen who sought the common good for the common people.  They could not conceive of an America that would degenerate into an immoral and irreligious citizenry that would lust after the sinful nature of man. ”Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity,” pined George Washington, “religion and morality are indispensible supports. . . .  And let us indulge with caution the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. . . . Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail to the exclusion of religious principle.”

 Although the Founding Fathers did not desire to establish a “Christian nation” they did desire to establish a rule of law bathed in Christian principles and biblical values.  They fully believed, each and every one of them, that a nation could not be established on any greater or firmer foundation than that of the God of the Universe.

Therefore, they could not have invisioned an America of the future that would slide so far down the slope to immorality and paganism.  Not in their wildest imagination could they have invisioned their beloved country – for whom they risked everything – would sink so low as to murder its unborn children; condone homosexual behavior as the norm; the harvesting of human embryos for research; a theory of evolution replacing the biblical concept of God’s creation; science trumping over godly ethics; preachers flaunting immorality from their pulpits or a host of other degradations of society that would have been unthinkable for their time and morality.

Nor did they believe (despite present-day assertions to the contrary) in the “separation of church and state.”  Nowhere in the U.S. Constitution or other draftings of the founding period does such a concept occur, nor belief promulgated.   But then, that’s a blog for another time.

Has America now superceded the constraints of its own consitution?  Has it become, as a people, so debased as to make our beloved constitution irrelevant?  Have we gone too far or is there still hope?

In the Lone Ranger television series that ran from 1949 to 1957, the Lone Ranger had an Indian sidekick named Tonto.  The joke of the day was when the two were surrounded by hostile Indian warriors the Lone Ranger turned to Tonto and said, “What are we going to do now?”  To which Tonto replied, “What do you mean we, kemosabi?”

Last week while in the 99.6% Muslim nation of Turkey, President Barack Obama made the widely controversial and highly offensive (to some) statement that, “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation.”  To which many in the United States have retorted, “What do you mean we?”

If by “we” he means the Founding Fathers of this great nation who served at the Constitutional Convention and of whom 51 of 55 were devout Christians, then Mr. Obama would be dead wrong.  One of them, James Madison, noted in history as the “Father of the Constitution“, stated, “We’ve staked the whole future of American civilization not on the power of government, far from it.  We have staked the future of all our political institutions upon the capacity of each and all of us . . . to Govern ourselves according to the commandments of God.  The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded.”

If by “we” President Obama meant the millions of school children across the United States who still recite the Pledge of Allegiance to “one nation under God”, then he is also mistaken.

If by “we” he means the tens of millions of Americans who attend Christian churches on Sunday throughout the country, then, again he would be dead wrong.

If by “we” he means the tens of millions in America, both Christian and non-Christian who celebrate both Christmas and Easter every year in this great land, then he is not speaking for the wide majority of Americans.

And, if by “we” he means the entire populace of America who handle U.S. currency, every piece of which is stamped “In God We Trust”, then he has certainly misstepped and misrepresented the people of the United States of America and their undeniable Christian history.

Perhaps, like most Americans, Mr. Obama has also had his knowledge of American history “dumbed down” through secular education or an Ivy League law degree.  If he is going to speak for the majority of Americans and flaunt the Constitution and its founders, he would do well to re-acquaint himself with (or perhaps discover for the first time) the finer points of this great founding document and the Christian minds that conceived and developed it.  It is unique to the world.  There will never be another such foundational document like it.

This nation was not founded by Muslims or Hindus; nor founded on the principles and values espoused in the Qur’an or any other holy book, nor upon the godless values of atheists, but upon Judeo-Christian principles, laws and values that can only be found in the Bible.

“Statesman, my dear Sir,” Founding Father and second president of the United States, John Adams, admonished, “may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which Freedom can securely stand.  The only foundation of a free Constitution is pure virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our people in a greater measure, than they have it now, they may change their rulers and the forms of government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty.”

Recently it was reported in the state of Minnesota that Somali Muslims were successful in getting the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency to agree to a program that would allow Minnesota Muslims to purchase homes with zero percent mortgages.  The reasoning offered by Muslim leaders to Minnesota authorities as to the need for such a home buying program was that Shari’a (Islamic) law prohibited Muslims from paying interest to buy homes, cars or any item that could be potentially financed.  But is this premise true?  Does Shari’a law prescribe Muslims to reject the payment of interest?

Shari’a law is the Islamic law dictated by the Qur’an and the teachings of Muhammed, Muslim leaders insist.  But there are only five verses in the entire Qur’an that refer to teachings on interest and all five use the term “usury” which is the charging of excess or exhorbitant interest.  None of the verses say anything about the followers of Islam being forbidden to pay interest, only that they are not to charge excessive interest (i.e. usury) in their dealings with each other.

Muslims can, however, charge excess interest when dealing with non-Muslims, as condoned by the teachings of the Qur’an.  This is known in Muslim circles as the infidel tax or poor-rate tax or jizyah.

Two verses in the Qur’an make it clear that the issue of interest has to do with Muslims charging interest, not paying interest.  Surah (chapter) 2:276 says that, “Allah does not bless usury [or usurious gains]. . . .”  Among Muslims it is not objectionable to earn excess interest, only to charge it.

In surah 4:161, is another clear verse on usury.  It states: “And their taking of usury though indeed they are forbidden it and their devouring the property of people falsely. . . .”  In this verse it is clear: usury, the practice of taking advantage of someone by stealing their property through the excessive charging of interest is forbidden.  Surah 3:130 reasserts this standard with, “Do not gorge yourselves on usury, doubling and re-doubling it.”

This is not a unique concept and predates Islam by thousands of years in the recorded history of the Jews.  The concept and “law” of charging “no interest” comes from the Bible, not the Qur’an.  In Exodus 22:25, Moses laid down God’s law for the Jews in dealing with the poor.  “If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy,” Moses quoted God’s instructions, “do not be like a moneylender; charge him no interest.”  In other parts of the  Torah (which Muhammed charged his followers to adhere to), Moses further stipulates that the Jews are not to take advantage of the poor by charging interest for loaning them money or other necessities.

So, Muslims can pay interest, just not charge their fellow Muslims excess interest.  But since no bank run by Muslims or non-Muslims can afford to loan money at 0% and stay afloat, how could any bank or finance agency offer such a program?  They can’t.  So, here’s the shell game that’s played.  The lending institution charges “no interest” on paper but inflates the purchase price of the home or car to cover the interest that would be earned if interest was charged.  The inflated purchase price is then divided by the number of scheduled payments to derive at the monthly payment.

An example of how the slight-of-hand works would go like this:  A Muslim wants to buy a $25,000 car.  He can put $5,000 cash down but wants the rest at 0% for 5 years.  The seller calculates the going interest rate (of, say, 6%) and determines that at 6% over 60 months the $20,000 would yield $3,200 in interest.  So, the sale price of the car now jumps to $28,200 ($25,000 + $3,200) with payments of $386.66/month.  No interest is officially charged, but the seller gets the same return on his loan.

Now, the question for the ACLU and the rest of America is: If we allow Muslims to dictate terms of doing business in America that they say is required by their Shari’a law, why not Christians and Jews according to their biblical law?  How about we just scrap the Constitution and let everyone follow the “law” they feel called to adhere to?

Perhaps Australia has the right approach.  A couple of years ago, out of frustration of dealing with Muslims in Australia, a number of Australian leaders voiced the opinion that Muslims, as well as all Australians, were to follow Australian law and it only.  If Muslims wanted to follow Shari’a law they were welcome to leave the country and seek to live in a Muslim country that permitted it.

I’m not sure what is more sickening, the audacity of AIG in the midst of near bankruptcy to pay out $165 million in bonuses, or the politicians in Washington falling all over themselves rushing to the podium to proclaim their outrage over such bonuses.

Where was their outrage when they were freely using taxpayer billions to bailout the mis-managed corporate money-grabbers?  Where was their outrage when they gladly accepted their automatic raises as a reward for leading this country into the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression?

It has been stated repeatedly that American taxpayers now own 80% of AIG.  Oh, really!  And who asked us if we wanted to buy such a corrupt, poorly managed company?  Where’s our certificate of ownership?  And exactly what dividends will this choice investment pay us to help offset the trillions we have lost in the stock market, the housing market and in future income options?  What financial returns will our children, grandchildren, great granchildren and beyond receive for bailing out AIG, GM, Citi Bank and a countless number of other greedy, reticent-to-change corporate giants who shipped our jobs overseas?  Now this IS OUTRAGE!!!

Let these folks go the route of past corporations who misused and bilked the U.S. public.  Sure, we’ll lose jobs in the short-run, but maybe, just maybe a few lessons will be learned along the way about corporate fiduciary responsibility and a commitment to employees and the American consumer.  And, just maybe a return to good old fashion corporate American patriotism.  American history has well documented that when businesses fail for whatever reason, another with often better ideas and better products takes its place.

Let the failures fail.  Those who fail, fail for a reason.  Those who succeed, succeed for a reason.  Thanks to misguided politicians with a perceived unlimited supply of our tax dollars and those of generations to come, we are creating a culture of failure at every level in American society.

Recently I attended a presentation entitled, “Is Islam in the Bible”, at a local church.  It was presented by Stephen Dickie, a self-published author of a little known book, Islam: God’s Forgotten Blessing.

It did not take me long to grow uncomfortable.  Not because of the topic of Islam but because of the biblical presumptions he presented.

Mr. Dickie was quick to put forth his own biblical interpretation that Islam was and is part of God’s design for the world.

As the author of the highly endorsed book, Islam & Christianity, I am not a neophyte when it comes to understanding Islam and its origins.  As Mr. Dickie proceeded with his premise, I quickly realized that we were on opposite sides of our understandings and beliefs about Islam and its Muslim adherents.

Using chapters 15-17 in Genesis of the Bible and Deuteronomy 21:15-17, Mr. Dickie stated emphatically that “the same promises that went to Isaac went to Ishmael, except for the promised Messiah [Jesus].”

“Ishmael was the son of promise until Isaac was born,” he claimed.  In my study, the only promise that Ishmael received from Jehovah God was that, “He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”  (Genesis 16:12)

Mr. Dickie believes that Isaiah 60 is a prophecy about Muslims and their returning to Jehovah God.  It was understood that he believes that the God of the Jews and the Christians is the same as Allah, the god of Muslims.

Turning to Revelation 9:1 of the Bible he read: “The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth.  The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss.”  The star Mr. Dickie proclaimed was Muhammed, the prophet of Islam.  Muhammed “was a worker with [Jehovah] God and sinned and fell to earth and was given the keys (authority) to the bottomless pit or earth” referred to in Revelation 20:1-3.

The “he” referred to in Revelation 9:2 was indeed Muhammed or Islam, Mr. Dickie said.  His premise for the evening was unabashedly this:  When God sent Muhammed the Christian church was in apostasy due to the dictates of Rome (i.e. the Roman Catholic Church).  God sent Muhammed and Islam to purge the church of its apostasy.  Drawing from Revelation 9:3 and the reference to “locusts”, Mr. Dickie said this referred to the “Children of the East” or Muslims whom God sent to punish the apostate church, then and now.

“If it wasn’t for Islam purging the Christians throughout Europe,” he asserted, “the [Protestant] Reformation would not have come.”

He cited Revelation 9:12-15 as prophetic evidence that God has sent and is today using Muslims to kill sinful mankind.

This is the most heretical and dangerous teaching that I have ever heard or read about concerning Islam.  Neither Muhammed nor Islam is prophesied in the Bible – unless you attribute their existence to the “anti-Christ” of scripture.  It is satan, not God, that is using Islam and Muslims to persecute Jews and Christians and the whole non-Muslim world.

No doubt you have heard about the recent conviction of Bernard Madoff, the Wall Street guru who swindled an estimated $50 billion from investors around the world – many who were certainly smart enough to make their own fortunes but decided to turn the management of some or all of their fortunes over to Madoff.   Madoff in turn used a sophisticated Ponzi scheme to give investors the illusion of increased wealth.

The Ponzi scheme derives its inspiration from an Italian immigrant, Carlos (or Charles) Ponzi who came to America in 1903.  Before the stock market crash of 1929, Ponzi bilked thousands of investors for millions of dollars through his Securities Exchange Company.  Setting up a dummy investment with fictitious returns, he paid “returns” to old investors with money received from new investors.  He carried out his scheme through 35 branch offices.  It only took eight months for the scheme to fall apart and he was arrested for embezzlement.  He was eventually deported to Italy in 1934.  He died in Brazil in 1949, destitute.

So what does Carlos Ponzi have to do with President Obama and his financial plans for America?  Americans are being asked to accept and believe the idea that the Federal government can “invest” trillions of borrowed dollars from “new” investors (foreign countries and U.S. taxpayers) to pay bogus “returns” (or repayment) to old debt holders (read: foreigners and U.S. taxpayers).  Along the way there is no real investment in America to generate lasting returns, only a slight-of-hand shell game that gives the illusion of the improvement of one’s well being.  It is a financial “house of cards” waiting for some event to flick out the bottom card and precipitate a great collapse.

Foreign investors in Obama’s Ponzi scheme are starting to get a whiff of its failure.  On March 10, according to Laura Mandaro of MarketWatch, “The spreads on credit-default swaps for U.S. government debt jumped to 97 basis points Tuesday, nearly seven times higher than a year ago and 60% higher than the end of last year. . . .” 

What this means is simply this:  There is growing sentiment abroad, particularly among those that have “invested” in the U.S. borrowing scheme, that the Federal government has a rapidly rising likelihood of defaulting on its debt obligations and will not be able to make good on the returns to the “old” investors.  Sounds and looks like a mammoth-size Ponzi scheme to me.  Like the old farmer said: “If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it must be a duck.”

I hate being the bearer of bad news, I really do.  But the tough reality is, that there is virtually no good news.  This “recession” is being compared by some to the steep recession of the early 1980s.   Time has a way of fogging our memories and coming up with the wrong comparisons.  George Santayana penned an often used quotation in his book, The Life of Reason (1905), that,  “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

The recession of 1981-82 is about as similar to what we are going through as the personalities and looks of a dog and a cat.  During the early 80s interest rates soared over 20% as the Federal Reserve made one bonehead move after another to combat inflation.  That recession ranked as the worst post-World War II recession – until now.

That recession lasted 16 months as unemployment peaked at 9.7% with 10.7 million Americans unemployed in 1982.  Through February of this year, while unemployment has risen to 8.1%, the number of unemployed stands at 12.5 million.  There is some dispute as to when the current recession actually started, but the most common designation is December, 2007.  Assuming it started then, then we are entering the 15th month of the downturn with no bottom in sight.  All financial and economic indicators point to many more months of a tumultuous spiral downward.

During the 1980s recession the DOW actually rose around 20%.  In 1982, at the height of the recession, the CPI (Consumer Price Index) or inflation index, averaged a positive 3.8%.  Since the current recession started, the DOW has plummeted over 50%.  In 2008 alone over $50 trillion in global personal wealth was lost.  In 2007, prior to the start of the recession the CPI averaged 4.1% for the year.  In 2008, it contracted drastically to just 0.1%.  In 2009, it is forecasted that the global economy will shrink for the first time since World War II.

During the 1981-82 recession, GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the nation increased 8.6% from $3.05 trillion to $3.314 trillion.  During the current recession, GDP peaked at a little over $14.4 trillion and then dropped to $14.2 trillion in the last quarter of 2008.  The optimistic forecast for 2009 is that the GDP will inch back to $14.4 trillion by October of this year.  However, this was based on some other optimistic forecasts that have already been blown out of the water.  GDP growth has already shrunk 6.4% and unemployment is expected to continue to rise to perhaps double digits.  The Federal Reserve has lowered bank-to-bank lending rates to 0% with no where else to go.

All this and with the investor and American pysche dropping off a cliff to all-time lows will continue to drive the markets downward.  As more people bail out, despite the best efforts of financial advisors and Washington to convince them not to, the markets will be driven down further.  As mutual fund managers scramble to liquidate stocks and bonds in their portfolios to pay off cashing out investors, the sell pressure will accelerate.  With no good news in sight and no bottom to the market predicted by Wall Street, the financial rout will continue.

It has only been a little over a month since Barack Obama took office as the President of the United States of America.  But already his agenda has been made clear:  Move America into a socialistic serfdom with all due haste. Total dependence on government will be the norm.  Only the federal government has the answers and can solve all of America’s ills and the all too gullible and desperate American electorate hangs on the messiah’s every word of glitz and glimmer.

“Raise taxes on the wealthy” the populace decries.  “That will solve our problems.” 

“We will raise taxes on the wealthy,” Obama decrees.  “And we’ll raise taxes on small business too”, he grins.  

And the people shout, “Amen!” 

The sly Obama counts on the prevailing ignorance of his serfs.  He knows that history and common sense dictate that raising taxes on the very ones who create jobs will deminish job opportunties for those he professes to care about.  Less jobs, of course, mean more dependence on him and his socialistic dole. 

Puttiing more people on the government dole assures Obama of more numb-brain serfs to assure his kingdom reign for years to come.  Over taxing business and the wealthy will assure that the government will be the source of one’s security and not an individual’s motivation to work and secure their own future.

Remove all incentive for self-determination by putting more people on the dole.  This will ensure an ever rising burden on the states so that they will have no where to look for help except the federal government.  Eliminate charitable deductions so that the ability of non-profits and religious groups to minister to those in need is impaired and once again the poor or those in need will have to turn to the government to meet their needs.

Then legalize illegals with health care coverage; tax rebates, etc. so that they will be beholden to you and assure your re-election to oversee the serfdom you have created.  And to make sure no one opposes you, ban hand guns and other means of personal defense and align yourself with the sovereign-destroying United Nations for their support and accolades for the final destruction of the once great United States of America.

For one last assurance, strip the military of its support and leadership; dismantle our effective defenses and cozy up to the enemies of the U.S. and assure them that we mean no harm.
